Posting this once again as a reminder to please ch Posting this once again as a reminder to please check out my essay on anti-racism -- which I've published on my website (link in bio) and on Medium.

Albert Einstein said, "The world is not a dangerous place because of those who do evil but because of those who look on and do nothing."

Complacency in the face of cruelty to others is just as cruel as the act of cruelty itself.

And as I've mentioned the first time I posted this essay, NO part of me is playing victim when I mentioned my own experience of being discriminated against.

Being outraged hearing stories like mine and others is a privilege. Rather than outrage, I'm asking for awareness, empathy (*not* sympathy) and perhaps even action...

It's a 3 minute read. I hope you'll take the time to look this piece over and share it. Thanks so much in advance.

Kindness Karma Spotlight: Fiona Swerdlow I met Fi Kindness Karma Spotlight: Fiona Swerdlow

I met Fiona in NY when we were both on the board for our children’s school. She kept me in-check.

Where I wanted to “stick-it-to-‘em”, Fiona was diplomatic. Where I swore like a trucker, Fiona was the voice of calm. Where I went anti-establishment, Fiona was purely professional.

I’m not sure I can do justice describing Fiona’s heart. Here was a woman with a “real job” — who travels constantly and makes guest appearances on major news networks to advise on the state of all things e-commerce.

And yet, she’s dropped it all to be there for me *and* my family - without hesitation.

She’s rolled up her sleeves to cook and clean (vacuuming, laundry) for my sister in my absence. She’s been there for every major family benchmark. She’s held my hand at funerals (plural) and visits with my sister’s widower and children even after my sister’s death.

Fiona is a forever friend who shows up. Always.

She’s never judged me. She eschews assumptions. She defies stereotypes.

Her generosity and selflessness are breath-taking in depth.

Sometimes I wonder what I did right in my life to deserve her...

Dispatch from Europe When I see posts from friend Dispatch from Europe

When I see posts from friends and family in the USA, just want to say that sometimes it feels like we’re living in parallel universes.

Over here, as of last Monday, we’re finally allowed to socialise with ONE other household- outside. IF we manage to keep our Covid numbers at bay, on April 12th, I can finally go to the hair salon!

Am not complaining!
We here in England have it pretty good in comparison.

My girlfriend in Ireland was thrilled that yesterday the government announced that on April 12, they could move *within* their county and for once, beyond the strictly enforced 5km perimeter. This means she can see her brother again who lives an hour away. We cheered together with excitement and optimism that we’re moving slowly slowly in the right direction.

Apparently everything is open too in Asia.

I find it fascinating how varied our approaches are to the pandemic.

So in absence of being able to sit in a restaurant (which I honestly can’t even remember doing), am posting my dinner over here. Am so over it- cooking and playing the “Gawdesse Domestique”. Even cozy family time has a sell-by date... sigh.

I wait with baited anticipation about being able to join the ranks of life beyond lockdown. Someday...

Until then, we just keep on “carrying on”...

Episode 7 Reminder! Another selfie with my specia Episode 7 Reminder!

Another selfie with my special series co-host, Natalia-Paloma, to say thank you to everyone who has listened to Part 2 : American women across 5 age groups share their thoughts on social media.

The vibe is different to Part 1 - but just as engaging and substantive.

Because of this series' amazing panelists, I'm more open to the *possibility* of doing a videocast one day. The body language, facial expressions and laughter almost need to be shared visually.

Please click on the link in my bio to listen if you haven't already. Thank you "up, down & all around" many times over for your incredible support, encouragement and outreach already!

The Consequence of Othering- A Commentary on the G The Consequence of Othering- A Commentary on the Growing Asian-Hate Crimes in the USA

Excerpt:

None of this is new sadly. Discrimination never is. I’ve personally experienced anti-Asian sentiment since well before my example from 1987. I’ve been ignored, cursed at, told to “Go back to where you’re from!”, made of fun of, stereotyped and even… spat on. Based on what’s happening now in the States, it would appear I had it easy...

Please check out my essay on anti-Asian violence by clicking on the link in my bio or by looking me up on Medium.

USA Speaks. Episode 7 is Out! Part 2 of my explo USA Speaks. Episode 7 is Out!

Part 2 of my exploration on how different age groups approach social media is out now!

My 16 yr old daughter, Natalia-Paloma, once again co-hosts this show with me. Have a listen to find out how the Americans align or diverge from their European counterparts on this topic.

What we learned:
• People are loathe to admit being on social media even if they actually are (WhatsApp, iMessage, LinkedIn)
• Everyone LOVES to hate Facebook
• Photo editing has hurt us all

Huge thanks for listening, sharing, subscribing and reaching out with your thoughts and feedback. Seriously, deeply grateful!!

(Please scroll up to link in bio to hear this episode).

Episode Reminder! ... in case you missed episode Episode Reminder!

... in case you missed episode 6 on generational differences toward social media.

My 16 yr old @nataliapaloma co-hosts this series with me, called “Mind the Gap!”

I suppose now that I’ve done this project, I shouldn’t be at all surprised that the age group with the most feedback was...the 20 somethings!

Please check out the link in my bio and thank you so so much again for all your amazingly kind support.

P.s. no make-up, raw photo b/c we’re in lockdown over here and to be honest, I couldn’t be arsed. But (!!) my hair is clean today!!! Trust, this is my stab at “effort”.
